Ann Arbor first in the country to experience the Bizzy Lizzy Gourmet Flourless Cookie

Local online bakery is scheduled to launch their Gourmet Flourless Cookie at The Produce Station on State Street in Ann Arbor Saturday October 18th, 2008 from 11-3. The owners will be on hand to hand out samples of these delicious morsels to all of the Produce Station customers.

Sheila Rae, owner and developer of this unique flourless cookies said, “I personally fell in love with cookies as a child in household where my mother could bake anything to perfection. Cookies are just one of her specialties from the rich delicate Christmas Cookie to Aunt Sally’s Molasses Dreams.”

About a year ago, Sheila Rae came up with an idea of making a high fiber and protein cookie that actually tastes good. After researching different components that could achieve her goals she came up with the idea of using no flour at all. Instead she packs these cookies with whole grain oats (Note: American Oatmeal can contain gluten) and flax seed, which most cookies in this category are dry tasteless and not worth the calories. “Well skill from baking came shining through from my mother,” Rae says.

The husband and wife team of Sheila Rae and Erik Olauson have been told that they have created something that far surpasses any ordinary cookie. These rich, soft, flavorful cookies hit the mark of perfection not to mention the nutritional benefits they are packed with. The owners both say, “They hate to eat things that can not fulfill two things, delicious and nutritious and these cookies hit the mark.” We have all read about the health benefits of oatmeal, flax seed, raisins and peanut butter and these are the four main ingredients in Bizzy Lizzy Premium Flourless Dark Chocolate Chip Cookies. No artificial preservatives or additives and no list of twenty ingredients you can not even pronounce, just a delicious cookie.

People all over the county have been enjoying this product by ordering online but now Ann Arbor, Michigan will be the first that can just drive down the street to the Produce Station and pick up these amazing cookies.

Back School

School is starting soon and summer is coming to an end. Are you ready parents?

I feel like a conductor when the school routine starts. Early wake up calls, two kids through the shower and bathroom, breakfast, drop off and breathe.

My life became less complicated last fall after I created a wonderful breakfast alternative for my kids. As a mom you may be shocked at what it is however when compared to quick breakfasts on the market this product is perfection. Bizzy Lizzy Cookie is the perfect breakfast because it fills you up until lunch with milk or juice. No longer do I have to argue with my kids to eat breakfast. No longer do I have to argue over their lunch choices at school because my kids are no starving at lunch time.

These cookies are packed with 4 grams of fiber, 7 grams of protein and are sweetened with pureed raisins and sugar for texture. Soft, chewing and delicious meets nutritious but don’t worry if you don’t like them soft go ahead and pop them in the toaster to warm them up and make them a little crunchier.

In my house, I take eating on the run a little farther. I keep these wonderful cookies in the car and grab each child a glass of milk or juice as we run out the door. They eat and I drive. Life became a little easier and a lot less stressful and now we share them with you. You can simply order them and we send them directly to you. They are individually wrapped to keep them fresh and delicious.

This fall we are presenting the original “Garden Fresh Cookie Line.” These cookies start out with fresh fruit or vegetable puree instead of the original peanut butter. Our line of cookies are flourless and are packed with oatmeal and flax seed perfection. Try a box today for your school year transition.

Vegetable Cookies - Indulgence meets Healthy

Cookies are all about indulgence. If you don’t feel that you are indulging yourself in something close to perfection why waste the calories – life is just way to short. A friend of mine and I were going to stop for coffee while we were off on a road trip. She said “Make sure we stop at Starbucks because there goodies are not all that good.” I chuckled and asked for more of an explanation. She said, “Panera has fresh delicious treats and they are hard to pass up but the dried out goodies at Starbucks are easy to walk by, it will save me some calories.”

Do you ever think about that? I sure do. I will take a bite of something and then make a determination. I use to be the person who said, “Don’t waste food.” However now my theory is don’t eat something that does not blow my socks off.

I know I have talked about the gourmet flourless cookie (Bizzy Lizzy Bakery) but the variations keep running in my head. I was driving the other day and came up with what I will refer to as my vegetable version. I figured out I can make these wonderful morsels with Pumpkin, Zucchini, Yellow Squash, Carrots, Sweet Potatoes and I believe Beets (color may throw this one out). Vegetables and cookies that fit the level of indulgence I require allowing myself to eat them. Wow – it may be heaven on earth.

Fiber and its benefits

Fiber is a major key to good health. Recent studies show the value of this rough around the edges food. Most people don’t even think about it. If they get enough they would not even know. Some research states that our ancestors were eating about 100 grams of this value commodity but today most research says we only get about 8 grams. Wow now that is what you call a drop in the bucket.

The FDA has tried to convince us all it has value by increasing the fruits, vegetables and grains in our diet through the food pyramid. However their guidelines seem to have everyone more confused. The FDA says five servings of this and 4 servings of that however that broadness leaves a lot of room for interpretation. I think the biggest area of confusion is what constitutes grains. We have all been brainwashed that white flavorless, colorless and tasteless bread is a grain. However, when every bit of nutrient is pulled from something it basically becomes nothing.

Recently at a farmers market a young boy and his mother were shopping. They came along the different booths, looked over the produce and walked by. Tasted a couple of healthy baked products and continued on down the line. As they were walking off in their hands were no fruits or vegetables only white bread. This mentality is only going to lead to more obesity, heart disease and colon cancers. As Americans we need to take a stand for healthy food. David Letterman just recently wrote that as Americans we have so much to be thankful for, so many opportunities and the best of everything in the world why we spend so much time complaining and not enough time appreciating.

Take a stand for your health. Commit to eating only whole grain products. This commitment is not a difficult one it will not break the bank, however you will be committing to a healthier lifestyle and potential years added on your life. Take a stand today.
